!!!!!!! UPDATE !!!!!!!!!!!! UPDATE !!!!!!!!! UPDATE !!!!!!!

UPDATE #1

We have come back "home" to La Cruz.  La Cruz is on Banderas Bay about twenty miles north of Puerto Vallarta.  It's our favorite place in Mexico, and we usually stay here way to long.

Our son Kris is coming down to visit Thursday for a couple weeks.  When he leaves so will we.  We want to be in La Paz sometime in April.

The 1000 miles from Chiapas to La Cruz was difficult.  We crossed the dangerous Gulf of Tuantepec to Hualtulco, then stopped in Acapulco, Zihuatanejo Barre de Navidad and finally La Cruz.  We struggled against adverse currents and winds up to 30 knots, always on the nose.  There were times the best we could do was two knots per hour toward our next stop.

UPDATE #2

Last summer we returned to Seattle for the first time since we left in 2010.  It was great being back, and we would like to thank our friends who let us couch surf with them.

UPDATE #3

We have a new Plan A: ship Grace back to Seattle.  We will be meeting a freighter in La Paz in May.  They will lift Grace on their deck, and take her to Victoria, B.C.  There are other plans, but this is the most probable.

In essense, we are done with cruising,

  1. Wow. The end of an era! Regardless, you two are awesome, you're icons, who are an example for all of us! P.S. Hopefully you can show me how you made that little thought cloud on the photo! Is it difficult?

  2. This sounds like a great plan. We look forward to seeing you when we return though it looks now like you will beat us by about a year. We plan to leave around June 1 for Dutch Harbor AK and will winter somewhere in AK. The next year we will wander south toward Seattle, probably arriving somewhere around September. So watch for us (like your photo shows!

  3. I guess my hopes that there was possibility, be it remote, that we could redu and complete that journey to French Polynesia, Marquesas is not going to happen. . . I was holding hope that there was a remote possibility. That one week we had once we finally got out of Panamanian waters, and passed the Bad Hair island, Malpelo- from there to when we had to turn back towards land around the Galapagos --- That sailing was so awesome!! Doing 6-7 knots, motor turned off for days straight! I don't even remember having to tack... That was fantastic. I bet we could have sailed like that all the way to the Marquesas. . . I loved Ecuador and have no regrets for having visited there, but especially for that sailing, it would have been spectacular to reach the Marquesas!! :( ... Maybe you can get Mom to change her mind and make the trip from California! :) I would certainly join you guys.... Well, at least there is looking forward to some sailing in the San Juan islands.
